It’s another busy week as spring really comes on song. The weather has been stunning and let’s hope it stays that way for a while.
This Friday is the R10K Draw. We have once again found some really talented local musicians who specialise in playing all the greatest tracks from the 50’s all the way up to the present. They are the Tilman Brothers and will be performing live on Friday after the draws. Supper is available and this month it is “build a gourmet burger” with fresh chips. If like me, you love food and like to do your own twist with burgers, this will be right up your alley! R100 per person for members and R120 per person for visitors, means you can bring the family and friends too for a great night out. Join us on Friday. Bookings are welcome and can be made with Peter or Lindsay.
In the bar Nick Bold has been busy with our suppliers and we have some great promotions for the Rugby World Cup.

The Rugby World Cup starts on Friday and the big game this weekend is South Africa vs New Zealand at 11h45 on Saturday morning. We will have grab ‘n go for the morning field to get everyone through quickly, so that morning players can see most of the game. In addition there will be food available in the bar and live watching of the match. Be here. And enjoy that legendary Westlake “Gees”!
We heard last night that Peggy Tibbit passed away at the age of 99. She was a member of Westlake for 40 years before resigning in 2017 due to health reasons. She was our oldest surviving Westlake member. Funeral arrangements will be distributed as soon as we know them. Our sincerest condolences to her family and friends.
While on the subject of long service, Mike Walker must be the longest serving Westlake member. He celebrated his 80th birthday last week and on the same day, celebrated his 68th anniversary of joining the club. In those days, juniors could only join at the age of 12 and I am sure with founding father dad, Rex, being a shining light at the club, Mike must have been keen to start playing golf! He is pictured telling one of his legendary jokes at prizegiving this week.
The new World Handicap System summary has been made available ahead of its staggered introduction in October and January 2020. All the details are available for your information here.

The ladies’ last fixture of the year is on Tuesday 15 October, although the play-offs are just round the corner and Westlake teams are all looking good. Well done ladies.

Lastly, the SGM to vote in Life A and Life B memberships was held last night. The turnout was good and the mood was conciliatory, despite lively debate, in the best Westlake tradition. The motion was carried, so any Full Life members wishing to become Life A or Life B members with the same playing rights as normal 5 Day A and 5 Day B members, can contact the office. Voting rights of all Life members remain unaffected. The savings are considerable if the days you may play on suit you. Contact Carmen in the office to assist you with this.
