What a great week!

Hello everyone,

What a great week!

We had a fantastic week last week. The Quiz evening on Wednesday was a great success with everyone asking for another one soon. The next Quiz night is on Wednesday 17th July so book with the office. Teams of 4 are the norm, but can be less.

There was also a player auction for the U.S. Open on Wednesday. The winners were as follows:
•  Colin Harris – R6 682
•  Dave Patterson – R3 645
•  Annemarie Usher, Colin Harris (2) and Gary Walsh – R911 (4-way tie)

The R10K draw on Friday was also a fantastic evening with great support. Congratulations to Tony Woof who was the lucky winner! The live music was excellent and the curry delicious. We will be doing this again on the 12th July so put it in your diaries and invite family and friends! The menu and details will be in next week’s newsletter.

Herbie Rothman Trophy

The Wags held the annual Herbie Rothman Trophy on Tuesday. There was a very good turnout and the winner was Ted Regan. Well played!

Save the dates!

This coming Monday, 24th June is the Member’s Open Forum and all members are welcome to attend. The Westlake Kitchen will be open until 5 minutes before the meeting at 18h00 in case anyone is hungry and wants a bite to eat.

Wednesday 26th June is the S.G.M at 19h00. Again, the kitchen will be open until 18h55 for you to enjoy a meal before the meeting. Members are asked to attend so that we get a quorum and pass these great membership categories.

Ladies League

Our ladies League Teams are in action again on Tuesday 18th June. Westlake are hosting Section 2 Bronze Division : KD/Mowbray v Rondebosch and Westlake v Erinvale. Good luck ladies!

Dreaming of that Darling Brew?

You may have noticed the Darling Brew guys here last Wednesday. They gave out free beer and there were some very happy members. They will be back again on Saturday, so make sure you get your free beer. Darling Brew is available in the bar too.

Bring the whole family!

For those of you that enjoy a relaxed family lunch on a Sunday, there are 2 planned at the club on the 30th June and the 7th July. Feel free to contact Peter or Lindsay direct to book your place.

Westlake Open and Reciprocity rates

This Sunday is the Westlake Open, part of the Western Province Amateur Series. Good luck to all our members taking part. We have arranged some very attractive alternatives for you if you would like to play on Sunday. Please contact them directly. All members to please note that reciprocity is only for Westlake members and not your guests:

Clovelly – R240
Parow – R200
Durbanville – R205
Worcester – R185
De Zalze – R245
Paarl – R200
Metropolitan – R250
Royal Cape – R280
Rondebosch – R280

Speed up your play

A reminder that as we approach the shortest day of the year tomorrow, everyone plays “Ready Golf” and you hurry through halfway house with Grab-and-Go on busy member days. Let’s ensure everyone finishes their game. Also a reminder that chipping onto the actual driving range from the chipping practice area is very dangerous, especially if there are other people in the vicinity. Please use the 3 practice mats down at the “new hole” on the course to practice longer chips. Thanks.

EOGA tip of the week

Playing the perfect bump and run

Here’s a couple of pointers on how to hit a great bump and run:

• Use a PW or 9 iron.
• Set up ball position in the middle.
• Take a narrow stance.
• Hands forward.
• Make a putting stroke.
• Let the club do the work.

There is some welcome rain coming, so dress appropriately on Friday and Saturday but have a great week!
