Please welcome your new golf committee for 2019

Please welcome your new golf committee

Our Annual General Meeting was held on Monday night and the turnout was impressive with 110 members attending. The meeting was held in fine spirit and was over within an hour and 25 minutes. We bade farewell to outgoing Captain, Martin Hill who has done an outstanding job in his time as Captain. Hearty congratulations to the new committee who will serve you for the next 12 months. They are:

Martin Peter – Club Captain
Geoff Tuck – Vice Captain
Grant Litkie – Honorary Treasurer
Morag Magnusson
Warren Espey
Gunther Weimar
Brendan Mackay-Leslie
Alan Sloane
Gordon Faint

Ursula Sa Couto also serves on Committee as the Lady Captain.

Robin Misplon remains Club President and Ron Clark, Garth Middleton and Hans Verkijk serve as Vice Presidents.

Westlake is very fortunate to have so many talented and dedicated members who are prepared to serve the club and its members.

Only 10 days ’til we party the night away

It is just 10 days before the party of the year! The BIG BASH is next Friday 24th November. While we have plenty of people attending, Emelia informs me that we still have space if you would like to join us. This is the party of the year and I can really recommend it. The theme is Casino Royale, dressing up is part of the fun and there will even be gaming tables on the night! R250 per person is all it costs for a full and comprehensive buffet, live entertainment and the party of the year! Call Emelia now and remember, your family and friends are welcome to join you!

Have you bought your raffle ticket yet?

The Toyota Yaris raffle tickets are selling well, but many members have yet to buy any or take a book of 5 to sell. Please make an effort to help us in our final push with this project. Tickets are available at the club office or chat to me personally over the weekend. I am on duty and can assist you with single tickets or a book. Let’s all pull together to make this a real success and utilise the funds to improve our club.

Advertising for 2019

We are currently compiling next year’s diary. A number of members expressed interest in advertising in the diary. If this interests you, please contact Emelia directly within the next week as we must get this off to the printer fairly soon.

Please clean up your butts

We have had a number of complaints from members and visitors about cigarette butts thrown on the course recently. If possible could we ask smokers to dispose of cigarette butts in the waste bins on the tees (once they are properly
put out please). Thanks for your assistance with this.

Want to join in the Sunday Golf fun?

Sunday Golf has been a point of discussion at the club lately. Having looked at various ideas, Mr Andrew Spagnoletti has kindly stepped forward and offered to arrange the members competition on Sunday afternoons. Traditionally Sunday Golf has always thrived when handled by an individual. Andrew will be doing a weekly draw and any interested parties can book with him. He has mailed all the usual Sunday golfers, but please feel free to advise us if you have not been mailed and would like to play in Sunday competitions. A big word of thanks to Andrew for taking on this task.

Upcoming events & results

The League of Gentlemen Golf Competition was held this past Saturday. It was won by Olivier Mouries and our Club President Robin Misplon. They are pictured with outgoing Captain, Martin Hill. Well played gentlemen!

Our ladies 2 Silver league teams were in action this week. Had they both won we would have an all Westlake semi-final! Unfortunately it was not to be, with Silver 1 losing to Durbanville and Silver 2 beating Strand. Silver 2 will now face Durbanville in the semi-final.

This week sees 2 major golf days returning to Westlake. Wynberg Boys High are on Thursday and Spur on Friday. If you need a game elsewhere, please contact the club so that we can assist you. These are big money spinners for the club and we use very few Fridays for this purpose, but a word of thanks to everyone for your patience and understanding in this regard.

Saturday is the Chapel Day with some fantastic prizes. Good luck to all the competitors in the afternoon field. See you all here this weekend.

Spend Christmas with us in the best way

Finally a reminder that Westlake always has a delicious Christmas Lunch on Christmas Day. Bookings are open and can be made directly with Peter or Lindsay. The menu looks delicious. Have a look here.

Have a great week.

David and the dream team
