Election Day

Wednesday 8th May we are open and will run as we did on the 1st May – Full Wednesday Competition. Go and vote and then join us for a festive day of golf!

Shaun le Roux

At the South African Mid-Amateur Championship our own Shaun le Roux seized the initiative on day one, posting a level par 72 to edge into the lead on a tough scoring day at Ebotse Golf and Country Estate.

Shaun had a slender one shot advantage over in-form past champions Derek Scullard from KwaZulu-Natal and Gerlou Roux from Western Province. We will have the full story next week, but are already very proud.

We have noticed a new trend alongside our glass recycling bin. Members have begun bringing their own glass bottles to the club and leaving them alongside the bin. While we have no objection to members making use of this service, could we ask that you throw your own bottles into the bin immediately and not leave them standing in the parking lot where they can be broken. Thanks for your co-operation with this.

With regards to golf etiquette, this week we would like to mention the practice of changing your booking at the last minute. If at all possible, please honour your booking by playing in the 4Ball in which you are booked. Some competitions require a full 4ball and if you arrive at the club on the day in question and simply move into another 4Ball at the last minute, you place the remaining 3 players in a very difficult position, as no-one knows about the change until it is too late to find a replacement. If you do want to change, please rather call the club and inform Carmen so that she can make the necessary arrangements.

Ready golf

Finally a further reminder to play “ready golf” in an effort to speed up play as the shorter winter days approach and our tee times decrease. We are returning to “Grab and Go” on busy days in Halfway from Wednesday 8th May.

Have a super week and good luck at the voting stations on Wednesday. Remember that every vote counts, so use yours.

Best wishes

David and the Westlake Team
