Life after the election

From Dave’s desk

Hello everyone,

What a week we have had. Any football supporters will have been enthralled by what has transpired in the UEFA Champions League over the past couple of days. South Africa went to the polls and we all eagerly await the results and the rain is beginning to make a welcome comeback as Winter slowly arrives.

Last week was the inaugural Bone Marrow Golf Day at Westlake. We played a big role in this day as we believe saving even one child’s life is well worth the effort. A number of celebrities agreed with us. Actor and new Westlake member, Frank Rautenbach, was here to play and provide MC services for the day. He was joined by Cricket superstar, JP Duminy. Another iconic South African who has become a staunch supporter of the S.A. Bone Marrow Registry, Zolani Mahola, the lead singer of the band Freshly Ground, was also here on the day. Having never played golf before, she was up to the challenge, spent some time with our Pro Alec and proceeded to play golf on the day. Thanks to all the members who dug deep in support of a cause we hope will continue to find support as it is urgently required.

This Sunday is Mother’s Day and the annual Mother’s Day lunch is once again being offered at the club. Pricing is extremely competitive. Bookings are available directly with Westlake Kitchen, so please give Peter or Lindsay a call to book your table.

As you all know, the course was hollow tined on Monday and Tuesday and the rain on Wednesday was hugely beneficial. The greens are coming along nicely. Everyone is welcome to play already.

A reminder that Grab and go is now in place on busy days, namely Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday mornings. The idea is to ensure everyone gets finished before dark, so please do your best to get to your second 9 as soon as possible.

This week we have a nice tip from Alec, our Pro – Is this your setup when you are chipping?

Do you struggle to get a consistent strike on the ball?
Do you tend to hit the ball fat or thin?
Do you struggle to keep the ball on the green?

If so, contact Alec today on 0828297094 and he can show you how we can improve your setup and take a couple of strokes off your game!

Please note that we have experienced some electrical problems which affected the halfway house point of sale on Sunday and Wednesday. This has since been fixed. As a result, Westlake Kitchen are putting through all those transactions manually and you may well find your account in a negative balance as a result. Kindly chat to Lindsay and just top up if this is the case. Many thanks for your understanding in this regard.

A reminder too to fix divots, rake bunkers and repair pitch-marks. I know many of you do this religiously but please chat to those that don’t so that we can keep the course pristine.

That’s it for this week. Have a great weekend and enjoy the golf!
