Another busy week has passed, and the rain has been fantastic!
We start this week with important news. Our new phone system will be installed on Monday and Tuesday next week. This is not a simple matter of plugging in and using existing infrastructure. It is an entirely new network using VOIP phones. So, the supplier has warned us that we could have 2 days of interrupted service. Kindly take note of the emergency cell number obtained specially for this which is: 083 379 4310
This will be the only telephone option available while this installation takes place. (Monday and Tuesday)
We have good reason to be proud of our recent results:

R10K Draw | 12 July
The next R10K Draw is on the 12th July. There will be food available, so be sure you pop down to the club. The next theme evening will be in August, along with music to enjoy. I will send more information next week but diarise next Friday in the meantime.
The Open Quiz Night | 17 July
The Open Quiz Night is on the 17th July and there will also be food on sale. The US Open Quiz was great, so make sure you book your place with Emelia. There will also be a player auction on the evening.
What’s happening on the course?
On the course, Raymond and his team were busy with the 13th green this week. We will be back to normal on Saturday for the weekend. We will advise on more work happening next week.
While we are taking about golf, please note that driving range balls are always available in the Pro Shop, even outside range hours. If you want to go and hit balls early or late and the Pro Shop is open, just pay there and take a bucket of balls from the Pro Shop staff. Also, a reminder that all range balls must be paid for at the pro shop and the slip given to the range attendant in exchange for your golf balls, even during operating hours.
There has been some confusion about how our booking procedure works. Just to refresh everyone’s memories, we have attached the entire procedure for you here. Please feel free to call Emelia if anything is still not clear.

A big thank you to our sponsors!
We have some good news for you. From now on, winners of Westlake Vouchers will notice a new addition to the list of companies from where you are able to redeem your vouchers. Nest Deli and Café at Constantia Uitsig Wine Farm have joined us, so you can also redeem your voucher there if you win from this week. A big word of thanks to Keith Henderson for this. While on the subject, don’t forget to support all our sponsors. They are a great help to the club, and they value Westlake member’s support hugely. Also, if anyone is interested in sponsoring a Tee Box, feel free to contact me. Some of our sponsors have had spectacular results, and you reach 57 000 players a year. It really is a great way to advertise!
Are you in the leagues?
Sheets will be available for Premier league, Premier Reserve league, Super Seniors and 2nd Challenge league in the foyer from Friday. Anyone interested in playing in these 4 leagues, please their names down. First games are the 3rd and 4th August. Contact Nic Lochner for more information.
Game to give back this month?
The wet, cold conditions mean widespread suffering for those less fortunate than us. Our President, Robin Misplon approached us, mentioning that the cold, wet conditions had gotten him thinking about the homeless and how he could help. He had heard about the HAVEN NIGHT SHELTER in Cape Town, and this past Sunday he sorted out his clothes cupboard and donated items he had not worn for a year to the HAVEN. He is appealing to us all to start a drive for unwanted clothes and blankets and he has undertaken to collect from Westlake and deliver to the HAVEN. Let’s get behind this initiative!
Our ladies are also currently busy with their annual appeal for our caddies ahead of Mandela Day on the 18th July. They are also collecting warm clothes and other essential goods for our caddies and their families. See more information here. Please support this very worthy cause.
Please let us know if you would like to donate to the homeless or our caddies, and we will do the rest. Thanks everyone!
We are getting ready for a revamp
On the maintenance side, the ladies will know that there has been a consistent leak in the downstairs bathroom, behind the toilet in the wall. Unfortunately, this can only be repaired by breaking out tiles and possibly the actual toilet. The good news is that the Committee have approved refurbishing this bathroom, which is long overdue. It will be in line with the superb job done by Nick Bold and his team in the ladies’ toilets upstairs. Preparation work has started, and we will advise once the actual work in the toilets begins.
It’s blowing in the wind
A sensitive topic is the new tobacco control amendments act. We have had several visits by Police inspectors recently and compliance with this law is mandatory. Otherwise we run the very real risk of hefty fines or potential loss of our liquor licence. You will notice some white markings on the forecourt and signage has also been erected. Please do not smoke within the demarcated area. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.
A word of thanks to our staff!
Finally, a small word about our staff and all the effort they all put in. Seeing the amount of graft and enthusiasm that goes into running such a busy club, makes me very proud to be a part of such a great team of people. The drive to always improve and up our service levels, coupled with the fact that they are sometimes faced with difficult situations and handle these with grace and a renewed sense of purpose is highly commendable.
Have a super week everyone. We are in for a wet few days ahead. I look forward to seeing you all over the weekend.

Weekly tips with EOGA
Looking to make the swing in the right direction?
Take a look at the best way to hit a better cut off the tee:
Tee it low
Set up with feet and shoulders left of target
Feel the club leaving the ground early in the backswing
Swing the club left , really feel that the body and the chest are rotating towards the left
Hold that finish
If you still feel that you need more help, please contact EOGA coach Alec!
