Festival is here!

Hello everyone,

Welcome to another bumper edition of our newsletter with a great deal of important information. We have a busy couple of weeks ahead as festival gets into full swing.

Let’s look back at the past week first.

A special word of thanks to Brendan Mackay Leslie and his team at Vedi Security for the last minute sponsorship of the Saturday morning field this past weekend. The sponsorship was greatly appreciated. Brendan is Westlake’s supplier of security. If you need anything in the security field, be it guarding, alarm systems or even camera coverage, chat to him. The best service coupled with amazing staff and a can-do attitude make Vedi Security one of our best suppliers.

Monday was the Senior Classic. What a fun-filled day we had, with a number of ladies joining the field too. Everyone played off the red markers and many players mentioned to me what a challenge it was hitting shorter irons into the greens than they are used to. There were some great sponsorships with free tastings and a word of thanks must go to Deep South Distillery, Stellenbrau and KWV. The winners on the day were Mike Dugtig, Colin “Bomber” Harris, Ian Genricks and Dennis Thane.

In Ladies league, Silver 1 reached the final of the league play-offs this past Tuesday. They will play Royal Cape at Rondebosch on Tuesday 26 November. Pictured are Lotta Kuhlmann, Lorna Browning, Gail Thane, Adi Campbell, Jane Wollaston & Joan Bulgin. Marilyn Franklin and Edwina Burger also played in the team during the section pool matches.

The perfect shot! – New member Carol van Veen had the wonderful experience of getting a hole-in-one on the par 3 third hole at Westlake on Thursday during the ladies competition. Welcome to Westlake Carol and hearty congratulations!

The Joe Douglas “Greensomes” Trophy was played for on Saturday afternoon and it was a great deal of fun. This competition was introduced in 2008 on the occasion of the legendary Joe Douglas’ 90th birthday.

Sponsored by the “Good Fellows”, there were prizes galore and everyone enjoyed the wonderful spirit of fellowship. The winners this year were Martin Delport and Ray Burgess.

Now to the week ahead…

This coming Friday evening is the November R10K draw. It will be held downstairs as Hout Bay Golf Society have their AGM and annual dinner upstairs. We have a really talented band playing live music. They are known as the Deep South Band and feature 5 exceptional musicians including legendary guitarist and producer Mike Pilot. See pic. There will be great food on sale, namely pizzas, ribs and chips or fish baskets.

This coming Saturday, 16th November, the Happy Hookers are sponsoring the morning field. The sponsor has requested a rather unusual but fun-filled morning – a 6 Club competition. It will be an Individual Stableford with A, B and C Divisions. What this means is that you may only play with 5 clubs and a putter in your bag. (leave the extra clubs at home). A real test of your versatility and skill. It should be great fun! VITAL – You may not enter these scores – it must be a no return.

This Sunday is the Society Cup in the morning. A big word of thanks to Billy Domingo for his prize sponsorship! More delicious food, competition and fellowship.
