Big Rain causes postponed DTK weekend

Hello everybody!

Welcome to another bumper edition. There are some important notices this week, so please take a few minutes to read through the newsletter.

Firstly, Load Shedding!

Our emergency number has changed. It is now: 083 379 4310. Please add to your phones.

We are currently busy with electrical wiring to connect vital systems to the UPS and ultimately buy a small generator to power this, so our longer-term planning is in place. In the meantime, you can reach the club on this number during load shedding.

Goodbye and thank you, Grant!

Sadly, our Treasurer, Grant Litkie, has resigned as Treasurer of the club, due to his relocation to Arabella and subsequent change to Country membership going forward. He will still complete his duties up to and including the AGM on the 18th November.

We would like to take this opportunity to say a huge word of thanks to Grant for the enormous amount of work he has done for Westlake in his 3-year tenure in this demanding portfolio. His unflappable and thoroughly professional approach made a real difference to the running of Westlake and his contribution to budgeting, accounts and especially all the comprehensive data the club has presented over the past couple of years was all thanks to Grant.

Management and the Committee have thoroughly enjoyed working with him and he will be missed, both at this level and Socially, especially on Saturday mornings where he played his golf and spent many uproariously fun hours in the company of the Slogs.

Thank you, Grant. Your contribution to this wonderful club cannot be overstated! We hope to see you back as a full member in the near future. Nominations for Treasurer are therefore open for the new financial year and can be sent to me at

Support the Bokke without missing the Du ToitsKloof weekend

You will all have seen the broadcast sent out on Tuesday, moving the Du ToitsKloof weekend in its entirety from this weekend to the 29th November weekend. This was done due to the severe weather expected from Friday and the Rugby World Cup semi-finals, both of which have caused large numbers of participants to withdraw from all the events.

Who will have the luck of the draw?

As mentioned in that broadcast, this coming weekend will therefore follow our normal pattern, with the Members Draw on Friday evening standing at R7 040, (be here and stand a chance at winning this!) normal golf on Saturday and Food Lovers Market sponsored golf on Sunday.

The World Cup semi-finals will be shown in the bar with drink and food specials available, so come and enjoy both at the club!

Our members come first

A couple of members have expressed concerns that Open Mixed on Hamper Day, taking place on the 1st December is traditionally only for members. This day will definitely be for members first as in the past, but if it is not full, we will allow visitors to fill the field. (We had 14 open 4-Balls last year).

Bookings for this day will open on the Friday 1st November telephonically, for members only. Please ensure that if you would like to play, you enter from that date. We will ensure we communicate any open slots prior to opening these to visitors.

Go Bokke!

While on the subject of the Rugby World Cup, if South Africa reach the final, it will be at 11h00 on Saturday 2nd November. We will make a decision on a possible shotgun start for both fields on Monday and communicate to everyone. That way everyone can play golf and watch the game. Let’s hold thumbs…

We appreciate your support!

This past Saturday morning was kindly sponsored by the Dawn Guzzlers’ Fred Louw and Tim Watkins-Baker. They stepped up at the last minute and the sponsorship was greatly appreciated. Thank you, gentlemen.

League news

In the Premier League played at Atlantic Beach on Sunday, Westlake defeated Bellville by an impressive 9 points to 3! We won both the Foursomes and the singles. Well done guys!

The Ladies leagues are also faring extremely well with ALL our teams having qualified for the playoffs. Silver 1 and Silver 2 finished the year top of their Sections.

Bronze 3 are top of their log and Bronze 1 and Bronze 2 finished in second place. What an achievement, ladies!

Ackerman Championships

In the Ackerman Championships played at Strand on the 19th and 20th October, Westlake’s Marilyn Franklin did well, finishing in a highly creditable 22nd place on 168 nett. Nicely done, Marilyn!

Raymond and his team have once again done a sterling job with the hollowtining and the rain on Wednesday was a great help in settling the sand on the greens. The golf ops and bar staff spent Monday and Tuesday spring cleaning and undergoing training ahead of the busy season.

A reminder for your diaries of the Ladies AGM on the 7th November at 18h30 and the Main AGM on the 18th November.

That’s it for this week. Have a great week and be safe if travelling during all the expected rain.
