Good afternoon everyone
We are in the middle of a VERY busy week. This trend bodes well for our club and your continuous support is much appreciated.
This week, I would like to start a bumper edition of the main newsletter with some historic news. Here is an article published in the newsletter back in 2015. Read that before continuing. This week, four of our members, including two from that illustrious 4-ball six years ago, played a round of golf and broke the record for the greatest combined age in a 4-ball at Westlake. Dennis Hill (turned 93 on 1 April),Roy Cochran (89), David Machen (86) and Palle Hesthaven (84), giving a phenomenal 352 years! Well done gentlemen!

The pop-Up Restaurant is FULLY BOOKED for tomorrow. That means all the inside tables in the downstairs bar are reserved. Tables on the patio are on a first come, first served basis and we must ensure Covid protocols are observed, so please be aware that if you didn’t book, you will need to proceed to the patio upon arrival. Francois is playing Live, so popping in later after supper may be a good option. Next Friday is back upstairs and features more great live music as well as the R5K draw. Bookings are open for that with Erin at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Rating for new 18 hole par 3 course
You might notice some grey granite markers around the course and wonder what they are for. When the course was re-rated, we also included an 18 hole par 3 course aiming primarily at our junior section. This can also be used for fun events for our members. The interesting thing about this is that if members do play it, they can enter their score for handicapping purposes. This will only be put into use in the summer, but it does give Westlake another exciting option for juniors, members and even events (golf days).
This coming Tuesday is Freedom Day and as is usual on Public Holidays, there will be a club competition in the afternoon. This is not compulsory, so feel free to enter if you want to. There will be a small prize-giving after the game.
Grab and Go
From 1 May, the halfway house will revert to “Grab and Go” for Winter. This is to ensure we fit as many tee times in every day as possible. Tee times are always at a premium over winter due to shorter days, so please assist us by grabbing your halfway and proceeding straight to the tee (avoid lengthy sitting at tables to enjoy your halfway snack). This is especially important on busy days. Thanks for your understanding in this regard.
Guests on member days
Just a reminder to always e-mail our Captain, Geoff Tuck, or myself at email@example.com if you want a guest to join you for a game on a member competition day (Wednesday afternoons and Saturdays). Tee times are at a premium on these days, especially during Winter, so if there is a waiting list, members must be given preference. Please don’t enter member names when booking, knowing you want to change to a guest later. Rather mail me to assist you and I will always attempt to assist.
Please see the Masters League log here. This was just before the semi-finals. Despite being last, Westlake had some incredibly close results and we wish you guys well for next year.
The Mid-Amateur team has done very well. See the log here. They now play Belville home and away on Saturday in the semi-final. Good luck gentlemen!

Daniela Viotti followed up her runner-up spot in the Ladies Club Champs with a stunning win in the Boland Open Silver section, winning both gross and net. Hearty congratulations!
On Monday, our seniors were invited to play a friendly game against Steenberg at Royal Cape. Clovelly and Royal Cape also participated. They had a great day out. The full results are here for your information. It is fantastic to see the camaraderie between Westlake and our neighbouring clubs is back!
That’s it for this week. Have a great long weekend and if you are travelling, get back safe. See you at the club!
