WAGS GOLF on TUESDAY 22 JANUARY 2013

THE ASCOT GARDENS INTERNATIONAL CHALLENGE DAY

(SWALLOWS AND EGYPTIAN GEESE versus SOUTH AFRICA)

combined with the usual 4 ball alliance with two scores to count.

SPONSORSHIP HAS BEEN KINDLY PROVIDED BY ASCOT GARDENS SELF CATERING ACCOMMODATION, OWNED AND OPERATED BY BARRY EDKINS AND LOCATED IN BERGVLIET.

COMPETITION 1 - The International Challenge

SWALLOWS AND EGYPTIAN GEESE: These are players visiting from overseas and also players who immigrated to South Africa - (UITLANDERS).

SOUTH AFRICA: These are players born locally - (SPRINGKAANS).

Each fourball will comprise of either 4 Uitlanders or 4 Springkaans. The usual Stableford 2 scores to count total for each fourball will be tabulated and the accumulated totals for each of the two teams will determine the winner of the Ascot Gardens International Challenge Trophy.

In the event of a tie the side with the highest total of Stableford points of all team players will be adjudged the winner. Should this generate a further tie then the third highest total score (and so on) will determine the winner.

COMPETITION 2 – Usual Fourball Alliance with two scores to count.

Also prizes for nearest the pin on all short holes and the longest putt on the 18th green.

In the event of any tie, the highest age total of affected team players will determine the winners. If this fails then the Westlake Golf Club procedure will be applied.

NOTES

Players are encouraged to wear attire, both on the course and at prize-giving, which can be readily associated with the team that they represent. Help to make this a good fun day!

There will be recognition of the best dressed members – as determined by Barry Edkins.

Will the South African team be able to make it “three in a row”?

UITLANDERS team captain: Geoff Arkwright.

SOUTH AFRICA Team Captain: John Day

The annual WAGS Herbie Rothman Geriatric Day was held on Tuesday 19th June. The statuette Trophy was given to a founder of WAGS, Ernie Yates, by his friend and great golfer/sportsman Herbie Rothman on Herbie's death bed. Ernie later donated the statuette to the WAGS in commeration of his friend to be played for annually as an individual Stableford plus half the member's age. This year we were especially pleased that Ernie's son Geoff, who now plays with the WAGS, presented the trophy.

A "normal" four ball alliance with two scores to count was run simultaneously.

Following their introduction last year, this year we were again very grateful for the generous sponsorship by the "de Vere Group".

Alliance;

1 Gerrard Wigram, Malcolm Roach, Barry August & Wim Meuldijk                     94 oco

2 Ted Ragan, Keith Bissit, Ian McPherson & Mike Erasmus                               94 oco

3 Roy Rixon, Peter Foad, Tim Largier Snr, Geoff Yates                                    92

NB  Count outs are based on age, the older the better.
