Westlake Golf Club embarked on its golf development project in 1999 to address the shortage of young talented golfers, especially from previously disadvantaged backgrounds. Its mission is to introduce the game of golf to those who may not have had the opportunity to try their hand at it before, develop skills and encourage the interest of talented players.

Selected local schools enthusiastically send groups of children to participate in this programme every year. Westlake provides the facilities, golf balls and equipment, and funds the children's transport, and Nicolaas Lochner (Assistant Professional) donates his expertise free of charge as a part of their weekly training.
