| Greetings from Westlake
GC |
Friday, 29 January 2010 |
Well
we hope you all had a good week and played some good
golf.
Ada had her Seafood evening last week Friday and it was
absolutely amazing to say the least. We are very lucky to have such
an enthusiastic caterer. The comments given back to us were not
short of brilliant.
 |
 |
Some Good News, Ada is going to be doing a Valentines
Dinner on Sunday 14th of Feb. She will be serving a seafood
starter followed by a lamb on the spit with salads. There will
also be plenty of Desserts to choose from. The dinner will
cost R 120.00 and will be done in the downstairs lounge area
and forecourt starting and will start at 18:00. Please book
with Ada as soon as possible to avoid
disappointment.
Congratulations to Anne Norman,
Dean Norman, Iain Smith and Marion
Smith for winning the ladies Open Mixed this past
Sunday. Once again, we would like to thank Tiffany
Wainford from Winchester Mansions for her kind
sponsorship of this event.
Good Luck to all those
playing in the Club knockout matchplay this Saturday. If you
have put your name down please remember to check what time you
are playing. |

YOUR
PROSHOP
TIP
OF THE WEEK
DON’T SQUEEZE THE GRIP TOO
TIGHT There is a simple way to get your grip pressure
correct. Take a large tube of toothpaste and unscrew the cap. Hold
the tube with the nozzle pointing down and grip the tube as you
would your club. The pressure you grip the tube should be just
enough so the toothpaste does not come out.
We hope that
these tips will help all of you and if you do have any queries
regarding any fundamentals of the game, please come and speak to Nic
or myself.
Until next week, Gerhard and the

TEE
TO GREEN
Boy
oh boy! I think I could safely say that we have got some of the
lushest fairways in the Western Cape for this time of year. There
are however some patches that need to be plugged like for example
the left hand side of the 2nd green as well as some patches in the
1st fairway.
The plugging will commence as soon as we have
finished with the renovation of the 4th greenside bunker. We will
start on the 1st fairway and go hole by hole there after.
The
bunker renovation is going fantastically well and I am very happy
with what we have produced so far. We will however be putting the
bunker renovation on hold while we do some plugging but will resume
as soon as we are done. The next bunkers to be done will be the 1st
fairway bunkers and the 5th greenside bunkers there after.
I
have also got some great news with regards to our goose dog Max.
This past Monday he visited our course and I am very happy to say
that he has already taken a firm disliking to the Egyptian geese. It
must be said that my training is still far from perfect. I will be
going up to there training grounds in the coming weeks to learn how
to handle Max more efficiently and also to work on my whistling
commands. His unofficial implementation date will be at the end of
February 2010.
We are also busy re-doing the gardens at the
players entrance. The plants that will be used there will be
indigenous and offer much more colour than the current plants that
were used there.
Other than that it will be business as usual
out on the golf course.

| CLUBHEAD SPEED +
SQUARE IMPACT = DISTANCE |
 |
| The
manufacturers never stop their search for extra distance from
their Drivers. We've seen larger heads, followed by weight
distribution to influence launch angles and spin rates. Then
came designs which delivered high MOI allowing you to swing
longer shafts and still keep it on the fairway. Now we have
advanced aerodynamics to allow you to generate greater club
head speed. |
 |
Aerodynamically
efficient head designs combine with longer, lighter shafts to
increase the clubhead’s speed at impact. It may only be an
increase of 4mph, but if that’s potentially worth 10 extra
yards, who’s going to say no?
What we need to make sure
is that we don’t lose the right launch conditions, the ability
to get the club head back square to the ball and the
consistency with which you strike the ball from the sweet
spot. So don’t give those ten yards right back.
Make
2010 the year you get a proper assessment with me, YOUR PGA
Professional, and make the most from your Driver every time
you pull it out of the bag. That’s a result worth
having. | |
 |
| I'M CHEAPER BY THE
YARD |
 |
Manufacturers
know that golfers can’t resist the promise of extra distance;
that’s why they’ll make sure that every new Driver will be
their “Longest ever”. But what’s a yard really worth? Let’s
find out.
Our subject is an ‘average’ golfer with
an average handicap and, crucially, a Driver bought ‘off the
shelf’ from the high street because it was ‘better value’,
saving him a total of R180. Below you’ll see we’ve put that
‘value’ to the test by comparing his current Driver’s
performance with that of a custom fitted
alternative. |
|
The
results speak for themselves but the benefits of being fitted
by your PGA Professional don’t end when you walk off the
range. Now I have a record of all of the
golfer's vital dimensions, statistics and trends we can
monitor his progress and, should his performance take a dip,
it’s a (relatively!) simple task for me to make adjustments to
both his setup and swing to get his game back to its
best.
You want value? You want extra yards? Simple! Get
fitted by your PGA Professional. Click

| Web Article: OUT OF THE BOX:
TAYLORMADE PENTA TP |
 |
 |
This
month we’ll see a ‘first’ for the South African market; the
introduction of TaylorMade’s ‘Penta TP’ - the first five piece
golf ball.
Some will no doubt write this off as clever
marketing, but the theory – and the science - behind the
ball’s construction are sound. The five layers (the core,
inner mantle, middle mantle, outer mantle and cover) are
designed with different density materials, at different
thicknesses, to act in unison to deliver performance – for all
players – with each and every type of
shot. | |
