Thank
you to all the prentice members who came to brave the wind last
Sunday. There were some good scores in the conditions.
1st
– Justin Sproul 44 Points 2nd
– Sean Mathew 39 points 3rd
– Zack Miller 39 points
We hope to see you
all at the next Prentice Comp.
There are still a few spots
open for the Club Champs, so if you would like to play please put
your names down on the sheet in the foyer.
Good Luck to all
the members who will be playing in the 5 Day Club Champs this coming
Saturday. We hope that you all keep it on the fairway and play well.
Please make sure that if you have put your name down that you check
what time you are teeing off.
Congratulations to
Christian Helmbold who has been selected to represent WP at
the u23 Interprovincial being played at Euphoria Golf Club in April.
Congratulations Christian and glad to see you are flying the
Westlake flag high!
It was not a great week for our
League Teams. The 2nd Challenge team lost 5 -3 to Parow
and the Mid Am team went down 10.5 – 1.5 to Milnerton. They will
both be up against Clovelly this coming Saturday and we wish them
the best of luck for their matches.
Members are please asked
to be cautious of the sliding doors when entering and leaving the
club house. If your bag hits the door and comes off the rails it
costs us a fortune to fix so please be careful.
We are in the
process of getting hole indicators which will be displayed on each
hole on the course. We have got a space to advertise on it and if
you are interested please contact Wouter. This will be a great
opportunity to advertise your business as we are one of the busiest
courses in South Africa.
Please note that from 1st of March
our bar prices will increase by 6% due to the budget price increases
and increases from our suppliers.
Have a lovely
weekend, Mark, Wouter &
Beth
YOUR
PROSHOP
Tip Of The Week Putt To A Tee
Peg After you have finished on the practice range
warming up, go down to the putting green and start to putt to a tee
that you have pushed into the ground. Hit a good few putts to the
tee and you will be amazed that when you walk on to the first green
the hole size seems much bigger.
We hope these tips are
helping you and if you do have any feedback or comments please
contact us in the shop.
Until next week, Nic
and the Team
TEE
TO GREEN
Firstly
I would just like to apologise to all the Shark fans that got beaten
by my side this weekend. It’s not often that the Cheetahs get a win
but we will certainly take it when we can.
This week on the
golf course we will be focusing mostly on hand watering dry areas.
The excessive winds that we have been experiencing are not allowing
us to irrigate the golf course properly during the
evening.
Sadly Max will not be making his much anticipated
appearance this week. His implementation date has been moved on by 1
week.
We have also started making new distance markers for
the driving range and will have them in place within the 1st week of
March 2010.
Other than that it will be business as usual out
on the golf course.

| GOLF BALLS - CAN
WE IGNORE THE COVER? |
 |
If
a golf ball’s core is its engine – generating
distance-enhancing energy - then its cover represents the
tyres. Not only is the cover responsible for the grip that
ultimately helps the ball to stop and ‘check’ around the
greens, it’s also contributes to the feedback that the golfer
experiences when the ball strikes the clubface.
Taking
a look at a golf ball gives very little indication of its
cover’s performance potential because the only reference is a
visual one; it has a cover. Full stop. So, to help you find
out why one golf ball performs and ‘feels’ differently from
another – and ultimately to help you choose the best ball for
your game - we’ve identified some of the hidden variables you
should look out for. |

 |
 |
When
each factor is analysed in isolation one would be forgiven for
thinking that finding the best feeling, best performing ball
for your game would be a fairly easy task. Unfortunately it’s
never that simple. A Urethane cover, for example, may well
produce more spin than a Suryln alternative but if it’s
surrounding a core that’s too hard for your swing speed you’re
going to sacrifice some distance off the tee. It’s also going
to hurt your wallet…
Let’s face it; we all have a
decision to make: An extra 5-10 yards off the tee, or more
‘bite’ around the greens? Which would you prefer? I’d be
interested in knowing your answer, AND to see if the ball
you’re currently using matches it! Click
here or on the icon on the right to go through to my
website and enter your details into my ‘which ball’ survey.
I’ll analyse your answers and get back to you with my
suggestions! |

| GOLF
FITNESS |
 |
Better
aerodynamics, a lighter or longer shaft, more loft... These
are all viable methods for adding a few yards to your tee
shots. This week however, we’re not talking about any of them.
Instead, we’re looking at another piece of equipment that’s
vital to your ability to generate yardage: YOU.
How
often have you walked onto the first tee without warming up
and hit one ‘out of the screws’? Not often, and there’s a
reason; the less flexible your body, the more your ability to
turn will be restricted. This will limit the arc of your swing
and reduce your club head speed; less club head speed means
less distance. Your accuracy will be negatively affected as
well, because you won’t be able to manage a full release and
follow through during and after impact.
Here’s just
three exercises that can be done either at home, in the office
or – if you must – on the first tee. |

 |
 |
When
stretching there’s a balance that has to be found between the
upper and lower body. That’s because a golf swing doesn’t just
include the arms or the legs or the core; everything has to
work in sequence if you’re going to get that clubhead back to
square at impact and achieve all the distance you
can.
If, for whatever reason, these stretches aren’t
possible then come into the shop and let me know, I’m sure
we’ll be able to find an option that works for
you. | |
